Greetings to my fellow Leaguers –

Welcome to the fall and the countdown until a vital election, with lots of voting activities happening across our Leagues. I know many of you are striving to get information out to your communities as well as hold forums and events to encourage North Carolinians to get out and vote.

I was excited to see several of you at our event yesterday to discuss diversity, equity, and inclusion and how we move it forward within our Leagues and lives. Also, I have to personally thank the League of Women Voters of the Piedmont Triad for working so diligently in completing the dedication of the Gertrude Weil monument that was started in 2018 as well as the dedication of the Pomeroy Suffrage Trail Marker. Because of the pandemic, many activities were delayed, but it will become official today, Oct. 7. Thanks for everything you did.

Also, congratulations to the League of Women Voters of Orange, Durham and Chatham Counties on its 75th anniversary! Job well done and keep up your excellent work.

I also have to personally thank all the Leagues that have assisted in holding our Trusted Elections Tour, associated with the Carter Center. Many of you identified experts for their panels, recommended facilities to hold the events, and stepped up to complete other behind-the-scenes tasks to make it happen so successfully.

This fall brings many challenges for us to make sure our elections are fair. It is crucial that we keep pushing to get out out the vote. One month until the election!

Please make your calendars for LWVNC’s 2023 Convention, happening May 19-21 in Charlotte. Planning is underway. You will hear from the committee to assist us as well as invite your participation. If any of you are interested in joining the State Board as a director or officer, please don't hesitate and contact our nominating committee chairperson, nominating.committee [at] lwvnc.org (Ernest Mowell). We need your help! Step up and continue our vision for the State League. Our main purpose is to assist the local Leagues with their programs.

Keep moving forward. We are in this together! Stay safe!

In League,
Jo
