The League of Women Voters of North Carolina is supporting a request submitted to the North Carolina Office of the State Auditor seeking an independent audit of state-funded Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs).
The request, prepared by members of the League of Women Voters of Orange, Durham, and Chatham Counties in collaboration with community partners (see below), asks the Office of the State Auditor to review whether organizations receiving funding through the Carolina Pregnancy Care Fellowship are complying with state law governing the use of taxpayer funds and required public reporting.
The petition is supported by more than 1,000 signatures collected through an online petition and postcard campaign.
The League's support reflects its longstanding commitment to government accountability, transparency, and responsible stewardship of public resources. Independent audits are an important mechanism for ensuring that state-funded programs operate in accordance with legislative requirements and that taxpayers have confidence in how public dollars are spent.
The Office of the State Auditor should determine whether the request warrants further review. The League is advocating for an independent examination by the agency charged with providing oversight of state government.
