LWVNC Takes Stand in Landmark Case Protecting Young Voters' Rights

A federal judge in Winston-Salem will soon decide a voting rights case brought by the League of Women Voters of North Carolina, Democracy North Carolina, and the North Carolina Black Alliance. The lawsuit challenges a provision of Senate Bill 747 that cancels same-day registrations if a single verification letter is returned as undeliverable—a change that disproportionately affects young voters. The case, based on the 26th Amendment, could set a national precendent for protecting young voters' access to the ballot box.
