Friends of the League –

Is this an exciting time for the League? You bet! Things are busy around our state regarding voting and voting safely.

Thanks to our Vice President Marian Lewin, who is also our Voters Services director, your State League has provided several YouTube videos on how to develop a voting plan as well as what to expect when you vote by absentee ballot. Lots of good information in these videos. Our communications consultant, Andrea Cash, has help tremendously in producing these videos and more to give the League greater visibility.

I just voted by absentee ballot for the first time in my voting history. It feels really weird not going to the polls. However, during this pandemic, we felt it safe to use this method. Now I'll get to use the new tracking system the State Board of Election has devised.

I encourage all of you to keep informed and be proactive for your communities and members. I was so excited to see that a number of our leagues applied for a LWVNC grant in order to advertise VOTE411 in their communities.

I also wanted to let you know that we are working with a group of energetic people in Onslow County (Jacksonville area) to begin a local league there. Growing new leagues and growing all of our leagues is very exciting for your State Board. Statewide, we have over 2,000 members this year.

Another exciting event we had in September was our "And Now We Rise – the Next 100 Years of the League of Women Voters in North Carolina." What great speakers, anniversary acknowledgments from our partners, sharing with one another, and more. (View it on YouTube!) Your State Board of Directors did an outstanding job of creating this project to keep us moving onward for the next 100 years.

I encourage you to continue your great work. Embody our slogan, "Empowering Voters – Defending Democracy," going forward with all of us together.

Have a great election, and STAY safe and healthy!

In League,

Jo Nicholas, President, LWVNC, Inc.
