#GivingTuesdayNow: A Letter from President Jo Nicholas
On this #GivingTuesdayNow, below you’ll find a letter from our President. Can you support LWVNC as we support safe elections?
Dear Leaguers and Friends,
Today, on Giving Tuesday, we want you to know that the League of Women Voters of North Carolina is laser focused on protecting the integrity of our 2020 elections. Because Covid-19 poses a severe threat to a free and open 2020 election, the League’s work at the state and local level is needed now more than ever. And we need your support.
We are already hard at work on election issues. In March, LWVNC, along with other groups, sent a letter to the NC Board of Elections making recommendations for ensuring election continuity and voting access during the pandemic. That month, the NC Board of Elections and the DMV implemented online voter registration so that citizens may now register to vote ONLINE. We continue to advocate for our other recommendations, such as improving absentee voting and contingency plans for an all-mail election.
LWVNC is also focused on making sure all citizens have the ability to vote. We continue to spearhead activities to affect redistricting in an effort to create fair voting districts for all citizens. In addition, we are partners in litigation involving the purging of voter lists in at least two of our counties.
We know that many of you already support your local League with your membership, your contributions and your energy. Your involvement is crucial to your local League, and we encourage you to continue that support.
During this crucial year, when the work of the League needs statewide reach, we hope you will also consider supporting the state organization. Your contribution to LWVNC will help NC Leagues mount the efforts that will be required to ensure a general election of integrity this fall. Your contribution will fund programs that make a difference at the all-important local level and provide financial support to Leagues with fewer members and those with modest fundraising capability.
We know that many people in our communities are hurting financially. Our request is that you contribute what you can afford. Any amount is appreciated. Please consider giving a tax-deductible gift of $25, $50, $100, or $200.
Your contribution will help the League protect democracy in North Carolina. It has never been more important!
Stay safe! Stay involved!
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jo Nicholas
President
