LWV Orange, Durham, and Chatham Counties will recognize retired Representative David Price for his more than 30 years as a member of the US House of Representatives and welcome Representative Valerie Foushee to her new role representing NC’s 4th Congressional district. Former Representative Price will share reflections on his 17 terms in office and Representative Foushee, who began her first term in January, will share her initial impressions of Congress and the challenges ahead.
David Price represented the Research Triangle area for 34 years before retiring in January. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Divinity degree and a Ph.D. in political science from Yale University. As a legislator, he was a sponsor of many bills, but counts his involvement with the passage of the Affordable Care Act as a highlight.
Valerie Foushee began her public service on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board and then went on to become the first Black woman to serve on the Orange County Board of Commissioners. She also has served as both a state representative and then state senator before being elected to the US Congress in 2022.
