The Policing Practices Working Group of LWVNC will be conducting a five-part program examining the interaction of communities with law enforcement. “Our Community, Our Police” will be presented on the third Thursday of each month from August through December from 7-8pm. All sessions will be conducted virtually using Zoom.

The first four sessions are open to both League members and the public to educate on hiring standards and practices, training, and oversight. The fifth and final program will be open to League members only. The Policing Practices Working Group will report on what has been learned and gauge interest in proposing a statewide study for adoption by the delegates of the LWVNC Convention in 2021. LWVNC public policy positions are reached by the consensus or concurrence process often involving study of the issues by the statewide membership. (A reminder that membership to the League of Women Voters is open to all women and men, ages 16 and older. Learn more here.)
