Join us for this special event The Journey of Equal Rights for Women on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Noon via ZoomDelaware County Historical Society Director, Laurie Grant, Director and Outreach Associate, Paul Hewes, will provide a “real-time” introduction plus question and answer period featuring a prior virtual presentation of five guest speakers.

The program will provide a brief historical overview of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) by the Law Professors, and highlight the experiences of women in predominantly male led professions; education, law, and politics. The statistics of women’s ability to  “break the glass ceiling” or more aptly put “not break the glass ceiling” in these fields are astounding and highlights the importance of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in our democracy.

The featured presenters are:

  • James May and Alicia Kelley, Delaware Law School Professors who were instrumental in getting the state of Delaware to ratify equal rights for women in that state.
  • Dr. Merle Horowitz, a retired superintendent, an educator for 40 years, and an administrator for 29 years in the Delaware County School Districts. Dr. Horowitz is currently an accomplished author and presenter.
  • Honorable Linda Cartisano, a Delaware County Judge in the Court of Common Pleas, currently assigned to the Family Law Division where she presides over domestic, juvenile and children and youth cases.
  • Representative Joanna McClinton, who is the first woman to serve as a floor leader and hold the position of House Democratic Leader in the history of the PA House of Representatives.
