Sept. 20th is National Voter Registration Day

Voter registration day

This year we celebrate the right to vote on September 20th. In the past we have partnered with our local Spokane City and County Libraries to train volunteers and register new voters.

The pandemic created many challenges, causing us to look for new ways to reach citizens who are unregistered. This year we will attend three events in September. On September 16 we will be at the Gonzaga/Logan Block Party, September 17 at the South Hill Block Party and September 23 at the EWU’s Neighborhood Fest.

Also in September, we will distribute our “Be A Voter Checklist” flyers through Northwest Harvest. You can read much more about our LWV Spokane Area civic engagement activities in our ANNUAL REPORT

This summer has also seen us return to the new citizen Naturalization Ceremonies held in Spokane. Beth Pellicciotti, LWVWA 2nd Vice President and Spokane Leaguer, has been presenting new citizens a copy of the LWVWA textbook, “The State We’re In: Washington” purchased through a grant from the national LWV.

At a recent LWVSA Voter Registration event, a grandmother suggested we have a bookmark she could share with her grandchildren on the importance of voting. We are now working on a bookmark that will use #FutureVoter to meet that need. At the 2022 Unity in the Community. We rolled out our new game to help people understand the importance of voting when it comes to taxes.

Happy 10th Anniversary of National Voter Registration Day!
