Debra Cronmiller of League of Women Voters named new Wisconsin Fair Maps Coalition Chair
Cronmiller takes over for Sachin Chheda, who co-founded Coalition
and served as co-chair/chair since 2017
WISCONSIN— Debra Cronmiller, executive director of the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin, will serve as the chair of the Wisconsin Fair Maps Coalition and continue to expand its work and reach across the state.
“The Wisconsin Fair Maps Coalition and its grassroots volunteers have done amazing work over the years in bringing gerrymandering to the forefront of state issues,” said Cronmiller. “It’s an honor to chair this coalition and continue the important work to strengthen our democracy and make a better Wisconsin.”
Sachin Chheda will continue to serve on the Lead Team.
“The coalition is in very good hands with Debra as Chair,” said Chheda, who will continue to direct the Fair Elections Project and serve as a member of the Coalition’s Lead Team. “She has a tremendous record of non-partisan leadership to protect our democracy, and she is the right person to lead us forward. I look forward to supporting her in every way I can and to see more organizing success around Fair Maps in her tenure.”
Carlene Bechen, who serves as Organizing Director for the Coalition, will continue to be the lead staff person.
“I’m excited about working with Debra and the entire Lead Team as we work for fair maps, fair courts, and a stronger democracy,” said Bechen. “Our volunteer-led organizing teams haven’t given up on the fight against gerrymandering, but we recognize an expanded scope of looking at fair courts and other issues is necessary in order to win in the future. Debra is and will continue to be a great ally to all of us in the movement for democracy.”
