LWV Greater Chippewa Valley Joins REV UP Campaign

REV UP: Register! Educate! Vote! Use your Power!

LWV GREATER CHIPPEWA VALLEY recently accepted an invitation to provide voter registration assistance at a mid-day public education forum sponsored by the Wisconsin Disability Vote Coalition during National Disability Voter Registration Week. The event was part of the national REV UP! campaign, a nonpartisan effort to increase accessibility and participation of people with disabilities in the electoral process.

Representatives from People First Wisconsin, Cerebral Palsy of West Central Wisconsin, Disability Rights Wisconsin, Center for Independent Living Western Wisconsin, Wisconsin Elections Commission, and voters with disabilities took the stage to share remarks. Support for bipartisan Assembly Bill 168 was encouraged as it would allow an election official or another person selected by a voter with a disability to state their name and address for them. The Coalition’s new video, Voter Registration, developed in partnership with the Wisconsin Association of the Deaf, was viewed.

LWV Greater Chippewa Valley Voter Services co-Chair Jane Pedersen encourages all local Leagues to partner with the Coalition, “The experience opened new opportunities for our League to partner with and train members of the disability community and those who care for them.” LWVGCV are already making plans to partner with the Center for Independent Living Western Wisconsin on September 24 for National Voter Registration Day. Partnering impacts the League outreach in unexpected and enriched ways.
