LWV Sheboygan County Fundraises for an Ally Organization

LWV Sheboygan County recently employed an innovative fundraising campaign for its Martin Lurther King, Jr. Day of Service by leveraging its strong profile in the communities members serve to encourage donations to the Sheboygan County Food Bank. During COVID-19, many Sheboygan County residents lost jobs, some lost their small businesses, some lost their homes and too many lost loved ones. Members of LWV Sheboygan County stepped up to help those in need by directing a fundraising campaign not for themselves, but for a partnering organization they align with and support.

Donations made by League members were directed to the food bank's Food For Thought program, which provides backpacks of food for children who have been identified by teachers, counselors and principals as needing extra food support. Their fundraiser raised slightly over $1,000 for the food pantry. In the process, the League gained additional visibility and a few new members, who stated they were attracted by the League’s social justice fundraising action.
