The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin announces that Deputy Director Eileen Newcomer will be departing the organization after 8.5 years of service to voters, partners, and election officials across the state. Her last day will be April 15. While the League will not immediately repost the position, its commitment to defending democracy and empowering voters remains steadfast. The organization extends deep gratitude for Eileen’s leadership, dedication, and many contributions over nearly a decade of impactful work.
During her tenure, Eileen helped lead and grow some of the League’s most visible and innovative efforts. From expanding VOTE411 and launching Unite & Rise Wisconsin, to advancing a nationally recognized election observation program grounded in community-based research, her work consistently centered on voter access and equity. She played a key role in increasing Spanish-language resources, supporting the Ballots without Barriers Coalition, relaunching jail-based voting initiatives, and strengthening relationships with communities impacted by the criminal legal system. Her leadership also contributed to defeating harmful constitutional amendments, mobilizing voters statewide, and building the most diverse staff team in the organization’s history.
In her departure, Eileen reflects with pride and honesty—celebrating the League’s accomplishments while acknowledging the challenges of a necessary organizational transformation. She remains hopeful about the League’s future and encourages supporters to stay engaged, invest in growth, and continue uplifting new and underrepresented voices. While stepping away from her staff role, Eileen remains committed to the broader movement for voter empowerment and civic engagement, with optimism for future collaboration and continued impact.
