MADISON –Today, unofficial results indicate that voters throughout Wisconsin rejected two constitutional amendments that would have hurt our communities and delayed necessary federal funds. Debra Cronmiller, LWVWI executive director, issued the following statement in response.

“Today’s results show how when we come together we can win. The vague and unnecessary amendments would have created confusion and real delays in getting emergency relief to communities in need.

“We the voters turned out to show that Wisconsinites care about each other. We care about our beloved small businesses, the schools our children attend, our environment, our infrastructure and the countless other things that federal funds support.

“This November, voters will have another harmful, divisive constitutional amendment on their ballot.  We will show up and vote no and keep Wisconsin moving forward."

Thank you for your work this August.

This win would not have happened without all of you. Thank you for talking to your friends, putting up a sign, writing postcards, sharing on social media and showing up to vote no. Together, we are unstoppable!

But the work continues. In a few months, voters will have another constitutional amendment on the ballot. You can learn more about the dangerous November constitutional amendment here.  As always, we will share new resources in our biweekly update and post them on LWVWI.org as they become available.

The League will oppose it, and we hope to scale up our efforts to make sure this doesn't pass. Your support can help fund voter outreach efforts like postcard writing, printed materials, digital ads, text banks and more. Let's get to work!
