David Long, spatial data analyst and associate director of the Applied Population Lab (APL) in Madison, will speak on how local Leagues can access demographic charts and data through GetFacts, an online portal containing demographic data on Wisconsin. This resource allows members to obtain comparative data on their local community or county, on variables such as age, sex, race. ethnicity, education and spoken language. This context will deepen Leagues’ understanding and use of membership demographic data they recently collected. Long will also provide a brief review of demographic trends in Wisconsin.

Long provides research and analytic support to APL and contributes expertise on a range of tools focusing on spatial data visualization and spatial data analysis. Long also contributes to a variety of APL reports focused on demographic change in Wisconsin and has been closely involved with APL projects related to Wisconsin immigration. His recent work has centered on web-based tools for making local social and economic indicators accessible to a broader audience.
