State Assembly District 1 Candidate Forum

The Door County League of Women Voters (LWVDC) has invited the 3 registered candidates running for the District 1 State Assembly seat to a LWVDC Candidate Forum on Saturday, July 16 th at 9:00 AM at the Southern Door High School Library.

Assembly District 1 covers all of Door and Kewaunee counties along with a portion of Brown County and a sliver of Manitowoc County. Two Republican candidates, Incumbent Joel Kitchens and Kewaunee County Board member Milt Swagel are competing in the August 9th Primary election. The winner will face Democrat Roberta Thelen on the general election ballot in November.

This will be the first in-person candidate forum the league has held since the onset of Covid.

Please note: Should the LWVDC decide the Covid risk warrants it, they reserve the right to cancel the in-person event and move the forum online. In either case, after the event theLWVDC will post a link for viewing the recorded forum on their Facebook Page and website: lwvdoorcounty.org.

Candidate forums are one part of the Door County League of Women Voters’ mission and nonpartisan effort to inform voters about candidates and elections in an unbiased manner. When one or more parties have a contested primary election, and if it is requested, the LWVDC attempts to schedule a candidate forum prior to the primary election date, so the public has an opportunity to hear and view all the legally registered candidates who may move on to appear on the November general election ballot.
