Nancy joined the Beloit LWV in 1963 after moving to Beloit with her husband. She retains her membership and still feels very strongly about the activities that the League pursues.
1. Biography
Nancy was a sixth-grade teacher in the Lake Geneva, WI School District before becoming the Director of the Voluntary Action Center (VAC) in Beloit. She was the Director there for 31 years before retiring.
2. When did you join the League?
Nancy joined the Beloit LWV in 1963 after moving to Beloit with her husband. She retains her membership and still feels very strongly about the activities that the League pursues. She was always very interested in politics, as her husband was on the Beloit City Council.
3. Why did you want to be a member of the League and why did you remain a member?
Nancy states that she has always been interested and active in pursuing women’s and racial equality and rights. She was involved in the League housing studies and went to a march in Washington D.C. regarding the ERA.
4. How were you active in the League?
Nancy was on the LWV Beloit Board, took part in the League candidate forums, League studies, and did fund-raising. She was also active in registering voters and providing rides to the polls.
5. What is most valuable about the LWV’s work?
Nancy states that the League’s Voter Education programs and getting out the vote is really what the League is good at and she hopes that it continues.
6. How has the LWV changed since you first joined?
Nancy believes that the League is still doing a great job!!
