Shirley Senarighi's leadership in public schools and community organizations, and efforts to impact social change to increase gender equality in Sturgeon Bay, exemplify the Centennial Committee’s goal to highlight women who inspire us today. Senarighi is one of LWVWI's nominees for "Women Who Inspire," and we thank LWV Door County for submitting Shirley’s nomination.

Senarighi was inspired at a young age by community involvement modeled by her extended family’s volunteerism in civic and church organizations. She carried the same dedication to improve things for the better into her professional career as a teacher, guidance counselor and elementary principal. She has embraced leadership roles in the Door County League for over a decade and helped to found the Door County Civility Project, which teaches the value and methods of civil behavior and discourse in our everyday lives.

Whether participating in a leadership team, steering committee, or committee, I strongly believe in the power and effectiveness of shared responsibility and shared leadership.
