Politicos on Parade ... Ladies Taking Liberty

Parade

Renewed celebrations in 2021!

In 2020, the League of Women Voters observed the historic 100 year mark since its inception and passage of the 19th amendment. That same year, LWV of Volusia County's long-running biennial Politicos on Parade fundraising lunch and fashion show was delayed by the pandemic, and was later re-imagined into a Suffragist March Re-enactment & Champagne Reception on the Opening Night of Ladies Taking Liberty, on November 2, 2021

Ladies Taking Liberty posterThis original stageplay was produced by long-time LWVVC member Suze Peace, who shared its unique origin story. "The play is dedicated to my grandmother, Ernestine Cady Perry, and my mother, Priscilla Perry Sprunt. Ernestine's father, Wesley Cady, was a cousin of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who along with Susan B. Anthony, was an early champion of women's rights, finally culminating in the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution guaranteeing women the right to vote. It was Ernestine who advised me in my 20's to join the League of Women Voters and I have been a member ever since."
