Downing of a Flag: How South Carolina Took It Down (2021)
A co-production between South Carolina Educational Television, Strategic Films and Susie Films, Downing of a Flag focuses on the Confederate Battle flag and its impact on the people, politics, and perceptions of the South. Through firsthand interviews of people with various perspectives and a wealth of historical footage, Downing of a Flag examines the Confederate Battle flag’s history, meaning and impact, from its creation and adoption during the American Civil War; to its resurrection over the South Carolina State House in 1961; to its use as a symbol by Dylan Roof, who, in 2015, killed nine Black parishioners at the historic Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C.
