When They Call You a TerroristA Black Lives Matter Memoir (2018)

by Patrisse Khan-Cullors and asha bandele

Raised by a single mother in an impoverished neighborhood in Los Angeles, Patrisse Khan-Cullors experienced firsthand the prejudice and persecution Black Americans endure at the hands of law enforcement. In 2013, when Trayvon Martin’s killer went free, Patrisse’s outrage led her to create the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter.  Transforming her personal pain into political power, she then co-founded Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation with Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi.

Her memoir explains the Black Lives Matter movement's position of love, humanity, and justice, challenging perspectives that have negatively labeled the movement's activists while calling for essential political changes.
