Outdoor Citizenship Ceremony

Location

US
Thursday, June 18, 2020 - 12:00am to 11:45pm

When Citizenship Ceremonies were discontinued in Minnesota at the beginning of March, there were 1,500 people who had been approved to take the oath.

In June, oudoor Citizenship Ceremonies, social distancing style, will be held at the Federal Courthouse Plaza in Minneapolis. The Minnesota Federal judges hope to have all 1,500 become citizens before July 4th by having ceremonies of 10 people, every 15 or 20 minutes, on 7 days.

If you wish to volunteer to help with voter registration send an email to citizenshipceremonies [at] lwvmn.org with the date and shift you are available to help.

Shifts are

  • 9 to 11 AM
  • 11 AM to 1 PM
  • 1 to 3 PM.

2 volunteers are needed for each shift. Plan on wearing a mask and gloves. Hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes will be available for the table. Volunteers will accept completed voter registration forms, as well as give the new citizens pens, "I Will Vote" buttons and cards with instructions on how to register online and request an absentee ballot.
