Black Panther (2018)
"a powerful fictional analogy for real-life struggles" that taps into a "500-year history of African-descended people imagining freedom, land and national autonomy." - Nathan D. B. Connolly, historian
"It’s a movie about what it means to be black in both America and Africa—and, more broadly, in the world. Rather than dodge complicated themes about race and identity, the film grapples head-on with the issues affecting modern-day black life." - Director Ryan Coogler
Directed by Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station), Black Panther is a 2018 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Black Panther is the first Marvel Studios film with a Black director and a predominantly Black cast.
In Black Panther, T'Challa is crowned king of Wakanda following his father's death, but he is challenged by Killmonger who plans to abandon the country's isolationist policies and begin a global revolution.
Nominated for Best Picture and winner of 10 NAACP Image Awards.
