Greetings to my fellow Leaguers –
We have seen quite a flurry of activity since the last newsletter! All of you have been actively involved in making sure all the people in your communities had the opportunity to cast their ballots.
Many of you held candidate forums, ran ads about VOTE411, published articles to make your community aware of how important voting is, submitted reports from county board of election meetings, and more. I want to personally thank all of you for the outstanding work you have done.
Our work is still not over. We must begin to prepare ourselves for the next wave regarding protecting our voting rights for all people. In January, you will begin preparing to plan your programming for the next year – keep the faith and move us onward and forward.
This is the time of Thanksgiving, and I want to share my thanks for all you are doing for yourselves, your communities, and your State Board. We could not exist without all of us working as a team to be successful.
Remember to mark your calendars for our 2023 LWVNC State Convention – May 19-21 in Charlotte. Let’s come together to celebrate and acknowledge our accomplishments and cement our vision as we move forward. This is a time to meet and chat about things that we achieved as well as share programs that work for one another. It’s exciting to get us all together!
May you and your families have wonderful and safe holiday season.
In League,
Jo
Jo Nicholas, President, LWVNC, Inc.
P.S. Check out this coverage in the News & Record from our gathering in Greensboro to unveil both a historical marker and a monument for Gertrude Weil, the founder of LWVNC. Later in the day, Dr. Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins, the first African American woman to serve as president of LWVUS, gave a presentation and book signing at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum based on her book, “The Untold Story of Women of Color in the League of Women Voters.”
