Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants (2013)

by Robin Wall Kimmerer

In Anishinaabe belief, sweetgrass “was the very first to grow on the earth,” a constant reminder of the creator called Skywoman. It represents the union of mind, body and spirit.

Informed by both western science and indigenous teachings, this collection of personal essays focuses on nature, culture, and our interpersonal (person here including nonhumans!) connections.

Robin Wall Kimmerer is a professor of Environmental Biology and an enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.

Library Availability:  Multiple books, ebooks and audiobooks available at Hennepin County and Anoka County libraries.
