We cannot allow NC’s public schools to fall further behind.
The LWVNC Public Education Action Team has issued the North Carolina Community Resolves, marking the 250th anniversary of the historic 1775 Resolves. This modern call to action highlights the chronic underfunding of NC public education and urges immediate change.
What’s at stake:
- NC ranks 43rd in teacher salaries and 48th in per-student spending.
- Funding is threatened by state income tax cuts and diversion of funds to private school vouchers.
In North Carolina, it is the state government’s responsibility, led by the NC Legislature, to provide sufficient and reliable funding so that all students in all counties have equal access to certified teachers, suitable classroom resources, and up-to-date facilities.
Right now, the NC Legislature needs to hear our plea to end the decades’ long underfunding as it continues to work on the biennial state budget this summer.
Take Action:
- Read and sign the Resolves
- Share with friends, community groups, and elected officials
- Help raise awareness during this critical budget season
We envision a North Carolina where every child in every community in every corner of our great state has what they need to learn. The North Carolina General Assembly can make this happen, starting with this biennial budget.
