A statement from LWVNC President Jo Nicholas:
Yesterday we lost a true fighter for all people in the United States, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The League of Women Voters of North Carolina joins Leagues throughout the country in mourning her passage.
Justice Ginsburg once said, “Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time." She embodied these words as a lifelong champion for women's rights. Our nation mourns this gigantic loss.
As President of LWVNC, I know I join countless League members in sorrow. Justice Ginsburg was an idol to me as a leader and as a person. Her strength has served as an inspiration to me as I work to lead our powerful organization. We must continue her fight and carry on her vision for the people of North Carolina and the United States of America.
“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” Those are her words. They inspire us to continue our fight for Defending Democracy and Empowering Voters.
