LWV Wake's DEI Roundtable Discussion - What Does 'Defund the Police' Really Mean?

There has been much discussion and controversy surrounding the call to “defund” the police. This roundtable discussion - open to LWV Wake members only – will explore reimagining law enforcement and public safety systems and what should or should not be the responsibility of police. Learn more and sign up here. This roundtable discussion is not a lecture, but will be an interactive facilitated discussion. Prior to the discussion, please do the following.

This is a long document, but we only ask that that you read the following sections of it: Acknowledgments through Budget 101 sections (pages 1-6) and the Call to Action section (pages 79 & 80).

  3. Read - How to Talk About Defunding the Police at http://bit.ly/3pFD2hj. This short article offers tips about talking about divesting funds from policing and reinvesting funds into programs to reduce the need for policing.
