Interest in civilian oversight of law enforcement has grown significantly in the League and in our communities. This workshop is especially for members who are new to this issue, to help you get started. Experienced League members will benefit from hearing the latest research and what is happening in other Leagues across the country, with a special emphasis on Sheriffs. Register here.

The goals of this workshop are to:

1) inspire you to start or expand your League's work in voter services, education, and advocacy related to civilian oversight of law enforcement;

2) to give you concrete examples, people to talk with, and resources to help your League;

3) to highlight how essential community collaboration and the League's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion commitment are to this work.

We are grateful to the National Association of Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (NACOLE) for their collaboration. Their small but mighty two-person staff is working hard to meet the demand for outreach, advocacy, and education to strengthen and expand oversight throughout the country.

This workshop is hosted by LWV United States, LWV California Criminal Justice Reform Committee, and NACOLE. A number of state and local Leagues contributed to its creation, including: NC Mid Sandhills Unit & Henderson County, NC; Chicago & Cook County, IL; Greater Tucson & Metro Phoenix, AZ; Midland, MI; and so many more!
