LWVWI urges you to sign the Protect Our Great Lakes pledge in support of the Great Lakes Compact, the federal law that strictly limits removal of water from the Great Lakes. Policy makers and elected officials need to hear from you about the importance of protecting the Great Lakes from the Wisconsin DNR’s approval of the Racine diversion, a clear violation of the Great Lakes Compact. Recent public statements by Foxconn executives about the changing nature of its plans only underscore the recklessness of proceeding with the water diversion.
If the Wisconsin DNR's decision is allowed to stand, it may very likely set a legal precedent for future diversions in Wisconsin and other Great Lakes states by creating an example for other large industries to follow. If we care about the future of the Great Lakes, we cannot allow that to happen.
