Proposed Amendment to Remove Age Bias

PROPOSED AMENDMENT ON AGE BIAS

The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin (LWVWI) moves to amend LWVUS Bylaws Article III, Section 2A by striking "at least 16 years of age."

LWV of Wisconsin is proposing an amendment to eliminate structural age bias in the LWVUS Bylaws at the LWVUS 2022 Convention to strike the language, “at least 16 years of age,” from the definition of voting members. Successful adoption of the amendment will allow eligible individuals of any age to join the League with full voting rights. Our bylaws amendment will not be on the recommended list for Convention but you can still support it.

CURRENT LANGUAGE

LWVUS BYLAWS ARTICLE III, SECTION 2A

"Voting Members. Persons at least 16 years of age who join the League shall be voting members of local Leagues, state Leagues and of the LWVUS."
