League of Women Voters of Wisconsin Applauds Voter-Centric Budget Proposal

MADISON, WI– The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin applauds and supports a number of election-related items in Gov. Evers’ 2023 budget proposal. Debra Cronmiller, LWVWI executive director, issued the following statement in response.

“The League was pleased to hear that Gov. Evers is standing behind a number of initiatives that include automatic voter registration, greater funding for our local elections and a new office to provide voters with greater transparency in our elections.

“Many of the initiatives outlined in the proposal align with League recommendations to better increase turnout and accessibility.

“It’s no question at this point that Wisconsin has safe, fair elections handled by our dedicated election officials. Still, there are barriers that can stand in the way of voters, especially youth, people of color and new citizens.

“We agree with Gov. Evers: the right to vote is fundamental. We need to empower all voters. No matter our race, background or beliefs we are all Wisconsinites. And for our democracy to work, it must include us all.
