LWV Appleton: What Happens When Your Government Stops Listening?

On April 29, the "People Powered Day of Action," a nationwide day of action designated by the League of Women Voters of the United States, LWV of Appleton will sponsor a special screening of Can You Hear Us Now? This documentary focuses on their stories, along with other grassroots activists who are fighting an uphill battle against unfair legislative maps and personalizes how gerrymandering has impacted the Badger State and made Wisconsin the the poster child for this hot-button political issue

The screening will culminate in a virtual community panel discussion, of which will include filmmakers Susan Peters and Jim Cricchi; Sheila Plotkin, film subject and founder of the website We, the Irrelevant; Anthony Phillips 8th Congressional District representative on the People’s Maps Commissione; Dave Hansen, former state senator from Green Bay; and Penny Bernard Schaber, former state assembly representative from Appleton. 

Register on the LWV Appleton website for both the film and the webinar. You may view the 90-minute film anytime between Sunday, April 25 and Thursday, April 29. You will be automatically registered for the April 29 webinar scheduled for 6:30-7:30 p.m. There is no limit to those who may view the film, but participants in the webinar will be capped at 100.  The panel discussion event will also be livestreamed on the LWV Appleton Facebook page.
