MADISON - Today, the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin is celebrating Election Hero Day, a civic holiday honoring the tremendous contributions of local election administrators, poll workers, state officials and postal workers who work to ensure secure and smooth elections. The League also celebrates the official proclamation issued by Gov. Evers, recognizing the holiday. Debra Cronmiller, LWVWI executive director, issued the following statement in response.
“By recognizing the work of roughly one million Americans who make our elections possible, Election Hero Day aims to remind all eligible voters that elections in our nation are locally run, which is proven to increase trust in elections and results.
“Election officials and workers play a critical role in ensuring that every vote is counted accurately. As Election Day approaches, Wisconsinites and people nationwide will watch Wisconsin for election results. And while it’s natural to be eager for quick results, patience is essential to protecting our democracy.
“We must allow our hardworking election officials to do their jobs. Election results aren’t official until every vote is counted and the results are triple-checked. Election Hero Day serves as a timely reminder that democracy requires patience.
“We encourage voters to take a moment today to thank election workers for their dedication to ensuring safe, secure, and accountable elections. Remember, election heroes are our friends and neighbors. Consider signing up to be an election worker in future elections.”
