LWVUS public policy position statements serve as the basis for the national, state and local Leagues to take action. Position statements are adopted every two years at the national League of Women Voters Convention, after lengthy study and consensus by League members.

Positions Adopted by Concurrence
LWVUS positions may also be adopted by concurrence by the delegates to the LWVUS Convention or Council. A position adopted at a state or local level, after study and consensus, may be adopted adopted at the national level without additional study.

Defending a Democracy Under Siege

Voting Rights: Ensuring that every eligible voter has equitable access to register, vote, and have their ballot counted fairly and accurately.

Protecting Elections: Protecting and empowering voters to ensure that our elections are fair, accessible, and representative of all Americans. (See Money in Politics webpage,)

Redistricting: Ensuring fair and equitable representation for all residents through transparent and accountable redistricting processes and protection of the US Census. (See 2030 Census and Redistricting webpages.)

Immigration: Advocating for a fair immigration process and a path to citizenship. Standing up for immigrant communities to ensure they receive fair treatment under the law and encouraging new citizens' participation in our democracy. (See Immigration webpage.)

Individual Rights: Protecting and defending the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and preventing attacks that undermine those fundamental freedoms.

The Presidency: Working to guarantee that presidential power is exercised within the constitutional framework of a dynamic balance between the three branches of government (checks and balances). Supporting the Abolition of the Electoral College, including the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
Other important issues: the Environment, gun safety, the Equal Rights Amendment, reproductive healthcare, protecting DC autonomy, Heathcare and attacks on DEI.
