The Nominating Committee is charged with the responsibility of identifying future League leaders. Unlike other League committees, the Nominating Committee is responsible to the membership, not to the board.

Nominating Committee Composition

The Nominating Committee consists of 3 members each serving a one year term:

      • An elected chair (not a board member)
      • An elected member (not a board member)
      • A member of the Board, appointed by the Board immediately after the Annual Membership Meeting

Members of the Nominating Committee should:

      • be familiar with the offices to be filled
      • be familiar with the Bylaws
      • be well acquainted  with LWV ABC members. 
      • understand and be able to explain the responsibilities of a board member
      • understand and be able to explain how LWV ABC functions
      • understand our Non-Partisanship Policy and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policy

 

Nominating Committee Duties

  • Proactively seek those with skills of value to the organization from among both League members and those who are not yet members
  • Attend several board meetings to familiarize themselves with how the board operates and the responsibilities of the various board positions
  • Seek candidates to fill elected positions, vacancies and Board appointed positions
  • Contact existing officers and board members to determine if they wish to continue
  • Prepare a Nominations Committe Report in March containing its nominations for positions up for election to be sent to the membership before the Annual Membership Meeting
      • traditionally a single slate of officers and directors, but it is not required to be a single slate
  • Present the Nominations Committee Report to the Annual Membership Meeting and accept nominations from the floor
  • Solicit nominations for the Zilla Way Award, select the recipient and work with the board to prepare the award for presentation at the Annual Membership Meeting

 

Elected Positions

The Nominations Committee finds candidates for the elections held at the Annual Membership Meeting every April.  Elected positions are for 2 year terms.

      • Vice President
      • Treasurer
      • Voter Service Chair
      • Program Chair
      • Action Chair
      • Nominating Committee Chair (off board)
      • Nominating Committee Member (off board)

Positions Elected in Odd Number Years:

      • President
      • Secretary
      • Membership Chair
      • Communications Chair
      • Nominating Committee Chair (off board)
      • Nominating Committee member (off board)

 

Appointed Positions

The Nominating Committee suggests and recruits members for positions appointed by the board annually in the month after the Annual Membership Meeting.
