Raleigh, NC, July 11, 2022 – The League of Women Voters of North Carolina announces that its nonpartisan voter guide, VOTE411.org, is ready to be accessed by North Carolinians in the counties and municipalities holding elections on July 26. Early voting is underway and will conclude on July 23.
Available in English and Spanish, VOTE411.org is a comprehensive resource on voting information, where citizens can enter their address to learn about the policy positions of candidates, find an early voting location in their county, confirm their Election Day polling place, and take the guesswork out of the absentee-by-mail process.
Six municipalities – Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro, Hickory, Mooresville, and Sanford – will hold local general elections on July 26. Other municipalities and boards of education will hold runoff elections that day – Cary, New Bern, Rocky Mount, Statesville, Franklin County Board of Education, and Jackson County Board of Education District 2. And two second primary elections will take place – Graham County Sheriff (Republican) and Wake County Sheriff (Democratic).
Voters in six counties – Craven, Catawba, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Guilford, and Wake (which are represented by six local League of Women Voters chapters) – can access personalized candidate voter guides. For those counties, the League of Women Voters has contacted all the candidates, giving them the opportunity to provide voters with their contact information, responses to broad survey questions, and personal profiles.
“More than ever, we cannot take our democracy for granted,” says Marian Lewin, 1st VP of the League of Women Voters of North Carolina. “The ongoing threat to the security of our elections and the realization that we cannot rely on federal legislation to protect voting rights signal that local races – like those taking place on July 26 in North Carolina – are ground zero in the fight for free and fair elections. It is the League’s hope that a large number of voters will participate this month, as something of a preamble to the crucially important midterms that will take place in November.”
VOTE411.org continues the commitment of the League of Women Voters to provide the information voters need to be empowered citizens. From the League’s founding in February 1920, it has been dedicated to the belief that citizens should play a critical role in our democracy.
The League of Women Voters of North Carolina is a grassroots nonpartisan organization dedicated to encouraging citizens’ participation in government and understanding of important issues through education and advocacy. The League of Women Voters neither endorses nor opposes political parties or candidates for office.
