League of Women Voters of Wisconsin participates in National Voter Registration Day
MADISON, WI – Gearing up for the midterm elections this November, over 3,500 groups across the country will mobilize to celebrate National Voter Registration Day on September 25, 2018. The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin is proud to join this effort.
Leagues in communities all across the state will be participating in National Voter Registration Day by helping voters register to vote. Some local Leagues will be registering and educating new voters about the importance of participating in their democracy in area high schools. Other Leagues are planning to do registration events in various public locations in their communities. All of the events are planned to empower voters to make their voice heard in the upcoming election and beyond.
While National Voter Registration Day is September 25, Leagues across the state will be holding voter registration drives throughout the week and will continue holding outreach events as the November 6 election approaches.
“National Voter Registration Day brings national attention and awareness to remind voters to check their registration status well before Election Day. It is important so that voters are prepared to make their voice heard in November,” said Eileen Newcomer, Voter Education Coordinator for the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin. “The League is here to help anyone who needs it. We care that you vote, and don’t advocate who voters should vote for. We just want you to be informed and vote.”
Wisconsin is fortunate to have Election Day Registration making it so voters can show up to the polls, register, and vote all on Election Day. Even with Election Day Registration, the League recommends voters register in advance of the election. Wisconsin residents can find a National Voter Registration Day event near them online at www.NationalVoterRegistrationDay.org and can register to vote online at myvote.wi.gov.
