The LWV Hingham hosts regular Candidates Nights for Hingham voters to hear from candidates running for local office.

2019 Candidates Night

The LWV Hingham Candidates Night was held on April 4th. Elizabeth Danis, Steering Committee Chair - LWV Hingham, welcomed everyone and introduced the Moderator, Elizabeth Foster-Nolan from League of Women Voters of Massachusetts.

2018 Plymouth and Norfolk Senate Race

The LWV Hingham hosted a Candidates Night for the three candidates on October 17, 2018.

Republican state Sen. Patrick O’Connor of Weymouth, Democrat Katie McBrine of Hingham, and Independent Stephen Gill of Marshfield answered questions from League members. The Patriot Ledger and Harbor Media covered the event.

Candidates whose names appear in italics were unable to attend the event. All were invited to submit a 2-minute statement to be read by the Moderator. John Stoddard's and Mary Pizzelli's statements met the requirement and were read by the Moderator.

The LWV Hingham hosted its annual Candidates Night on Wednesday, April 6th. Elizabeth Foster-Nolan, LWV Weymouth, served as Moderator. The League thanks HCAM for recording the program.

2016 Candidates Night

The LWV Hingham hosted its annual Candidates Night on Wednesday, April 6th. Elizabeth Foster-Nolan, LWV Weymouth, served as Moderator.

Candidates who are running unopposed were invited to read a statement. These candidates included Michael Puzo (Town Moderator), Paul Healey (Selectman), Kirk Shilts (Board of Health), Roger Freeman (Municipal Light Board), Davalene Cooper (Housing Authority), Gary Tondorf-Dick (Planning Board 5-year term), Jennifer Gay Smith (Planning Board 3-year term), Kirk Shilts (Sewer Commission). The Moderator read a statement from William Fennelly, candidate for Board of Assessors, who unable to attend.

The School Committee is the only contested race this year. There are four candidates for three three-year term positions: Raymond Estes, Elizabeth "Liza" O'Reilly, Carlos Da Silva and Kay Praschma. Each was allowed a two-minute statement, followed by questions and a one-minute closing statement.

2015 Candidates Night

The LWV Hingham hosted its annual Candidates Night on Wednesday, April 15th. Elizabeth Foster-Nolan, LWV Weymouth, served as Moderator.

Candidates who are running unopposed were invited to read a statement. These candidates included Michael Puzo (Town Moderator), Eileen McCracken (Town Clerk), William Ramsey (Planning Board), Robert Higgins (Sewer Commission 3-year term), Kenneth Johnson (Sewer Commission 2-year term), Adrienne Ramsey (Recreation Commission). The Moderator read statements from two candidates who were not able to attend including John Stoddard (Municipal Light Board 3-year term) and William Wise (Housing Authority).

The Municipal Light Board (1-year term) race includes two candidates David Ellison and Roger Freeman. Mr. Ellison was unable to attend.

The Board of Selectmen (3-year term) has two candidates: Irma Lauter, Candidate for Relection and Mary Power. Each was allowed a two-minute statement, followed by questions and a one-minute closing statement.

The School Committee race has four candidates for two three-year term positions: Aylene Calnan, Carlos Da Silva, Cynthia Galko and Eryn Kelley. Each was allowed a two-minute statement, followed by questions and a one-minute closing statement.

2014 Candidates Night

The LWV Hingham hosted its annual Candidates Night on Wednesday, April 9th.

Candidates who are running unopposed were invited to read a statement. These candidates included Michael Puzo (Town Moderator), Greg Hall (Board of Assessors), Carol Falvey (School Committee) and Dr. Edward Schreier (School Committee).

The Recreation Commission race includes two candidates but only one was able to attend the Forum. Under LWV Candidates Night rules, questions will only be asked when all candidates are present to respond. Sarah Melia was invited to read a statement.

The two Selectman candidates -- Jon Asher and Paul Gannon -- participated in the Forum by answering questions posed by the moderator. The questions were compiled from the audience and the League. Also, each candidate gave opening and closing statements.

The 2014 LWV Candidates Night was informative as usual and we hope you enjoy watching it.
