Voting by Absentee Ballot

Voting by Absentee Ballot

Information for Voting by Absentee Ballot

The LWV Hingham provides information about the absentee ballot process, so that you have enough time to request, complete and return an absentee ballot prior to an election.

The deadline to apply for absentee ballots is noon the day before the election. We highly recommend submitting the application as soon as practicable.

According to the state Constitution and state law, you may vote by absentee ballot if you: will be absent from your city or town on election day, and/or have a physical disability that prevents your voting at the polling place, and/or cannot vote at the polls due to religious beliefs. The Secretary of the Commonwealth maintains a web page with instructions, forms and the deadlines to apply for an absentee ballot.

You may also apply for and cast an absentee ballot in person at your town hall. If you have further questions, you may contact the Secretary of State's Elections Division by calling toll-free: 1-800-462-VOTE (8683).
