Who can register?
Generally, you must be at least age 18, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of South Carolina. Read more, including court order, conviction, or probation status requirements.
When can I register?
There's no length of residency requirement in South Carolina. Voter registration is accepted all year at your county board of voter registration and online. However, you must be registered 30 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote in that election.
Citizens who'll turn age 18 on or before the next general election can register beginning 120 days prior to the closing of the books of a preceding primary.
Students attending a South Carolina college have a choice. They may register to vote either where they reside while attending college or at their home of origin. Read more.
What address do I use?
You must register at the physical street address where you reside.
Do I have to choose a party?
No, South Carolina does not have registration by party. However, you can vote in only one party’s primary.
Can I register online to vote?
If you have an SCDMV driver's license or SCDMV ID, you can register online to vote. The address with the SCDMV must be current. If you've moved, first you'll need to update your residence address with the SCDMV. Then you can register online to vote.
How else can I register?
You can visit your county board of voter registration in person, or you can register while you are receiving services at various agencies, including the SCDMV. While you're there, it can't hurt to ask!
You can also complete and submit a South Carolina Voter Registration mail application to your county board of voter registration by mail, fax, or as an emailed image.

How do I update my voter registration information?
If you still live within the same county, there are four ways: complete an online registration form, complete a change of address form, fill out and return the back of your South Carolina Voter Registration card, or visit your county board of elections.
If you've moved to a different county, you'll need to start fresh and register in your new county.
