A special primary election is being  held following the death of the Republican Party nominee for U.S. Senate, Lindsey Graham.

The nominee resulting from this special primary will be a candidate on the November 3, 2026, General Election Ballot.

Important dates

  • Deadline to apply for an absentee ballot: closed
  • Early voting: August 19, 20, 21 
  • Special Republican Primary Runoff: August 25, 7 am - 7 pm 
  • Deadline to return an absentee ballot at your county voter registration and election office: August 25, 7 pm

Who’s eligible to vote? 

Voters who participated in the Republican Primary or did not vote in either party’s June primary are eligible to vote in the Special Republican Primary Runoff, while voters who participated in the June Democratic Primary are not eligible to vote.

What about early voting? 

Wednesday, August 19 - Friday, August 20, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. 

Voters can visit any early voting center in their county during the early voting period, present their photo ID, and vote using the voting system like they would at their polling place on Election Day.

What if I'm voting absentee? 

  • To be counted, absentee ballots must be received by the county voter registration and elections office no later than 7:00 p.m. on August 25.
  • Be sure to sign the voter’s oath and have the return envelope witnessed before returning the ballot. Make sure the witness provides an address.
  • Instead of mailing your ballot, consider personally delivering your ballot to ensure it arrives on time.
  • An authorized returnee may return a ballot on a voter’s behalf if the required authorized returnee form is completed.

  • Voters returning an absentee ballot in person must present a valid Photo ID

Where do I vote on Election Day? 

Tuesday, August 25, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. 
Confirm your neighborhood polling place. Your polling place may have changed for this special election. Any voter who is in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Election results will be available on election night at scVOTES.gov.
