South Carolina Dominion ratepayers should speak out NOW!

The League of Women Voters of South Carolina will comment on the proposed merger between Dominion Energy (which so recently purchased SCANA following the V. C. Summer failure) and NextEra Energy. However, it is extremely important that individual Dominion ratepayers/customers make themselves heard.

If you are a Dominion customer, please plan to write, call, or attend a public hearing to comment on this merger.

There are many concerns that can be raised about the proposed merger. Most importantly at present, consideration of the merger is being rushed through in only six months. This is almost certainly inadequate to evaluate the many implications for South Carolina ratepayers.

About data centers and this proposed merger:

“South Carolina’s Public Service Commission (PSC) has given itself six months to review the largest utility merger in U.S. history — the proposed $67-billion deal between Florida power behemoth NextEra and Virginia’s Dominion Energy, which operates in 20 states including S.C.

The company's plans to add 15 gigawatts of power generation to support data center growth caught the attention of S.C. ratepayer advocates. “It’s all about data centers,” S.C. League of Women Voters Vice President Lynn Teague said with a sigh. “That’s what’s making Dominion such an attractive target.”
