Celebrate Juneteenth

The League of Women Voters recognizes Juneteenth as the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. The holiday is celebrated on June 19th (thus the name, Juneteenth) because, on that date in 1865, Union soldiers announced to enslaved persons in Texas that the US Civil War had ended and that they had been freed from bondage by the Emancipation Proclamation (two years prior in 1863).

Juneteenth is a communal celebration and Delaware County will hold a celebration on Monday, June 19 from 4 to 7 PM at Rose Tree Park. For more information click READ MORE.

The International Relations Study Group of the League of Women Voters of Central Delaware County has been active for years studying different countries meeting monthly on the second Tuesday, 12:30 pm. 2023 PA School Board Workshop: Two-Part Series for Candidates is being held on May 3 & May 4 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM via Zoom. This nonpartisan workshop series is for all PA school board candidates and interested voters to help prepare candidates running for the office of school board and is being conducted by the Education Policy and Leadership Center (EPLC) and coordinated through the sponsorship of the League of Women Voters of Central Delaware County; Radnor Township, Chester County; Bucks County; Lower Merion/Narbeth; and Abington - Cheltenham - Jenkintown Area.
