Good morning and Happy New Year, let’s reflect on the following words penned by America’s youngest Poet Laureate as we begin to "celebrate the new year and honor the hurt and the humanity of the last one."

May this be the day

We come together.

Mourning, we come to mend,

Withered, we come to weather,

Torn, we come to tend,

Battered, we come to better.

Tethered by this year of yearning,

We are learning

That though we weren't ready for this,

We have been readied by it.

We steadily vow that no matter

How we are weighed down,

We must always pave a way forward.

Let us reflect on these words as we plan and implement our programs in fulfilling the Leagues’ mission. With that, January is “ Poverty in America Awareness” and “Slavery and Human Trafficking Awareness” Month.

January 16 – World Religion Day

January 17 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 24 – International Day of Education

January 27 – International Holocaust Remembrance Day

In preparation for Black History Month, in February, please also note that many Leagues and organizations throughout our communities are hosting several events for American Heart Month.
