The Coastal Carolina University Department of Political Science hosted a panel discussion, titled “Fighting Against Major Party Polarization: Can a Different Approach Improve American Politics?” on March 23.

The lively discussion featured Nancy Williams, president of the League of Women Voters, and other panelists: 

• Clint Eisenhauer, a former businessman who is focused on the Forward Party organization and voting reform.

• Mia S. McLeod, who serves S.C. State Senate District 22 as an independent.

• James H. Rex, Ph.D., former education dean at CCU and former S.C. State Superintendent of Education. He is the national chair emeritus of the Alliance Party.

• Ryan Thompson, a 2022 graduate of the College of Charleston, who ran as the Democratic Party and Alliance Party candidate for the S.C. State House District 106.
