This is not just about policy—it is about people. Whether standing up for autonomy in healthcare, standing up to disenfranchisement caused by the SAVE Act (impacting millions of women and other Americans), or gerrymandered manipulation (impacting Black and brown voters), or protecting voter rights throughout our state and others through the preservation of voter rolls and polling places throughout urban and rural areas alike – the inclusive work we do is about ensuring that democracy works for everyone, regardless of race, gender, or background. Let us continue to lead with courage, advocate with conviction, and build a League that truly reflects the diversity of our state. Together, we can make democracy more inclusive, more equitable, and more just.
I will close this moment with words from Celina Stewart, Esq., CEO, League of Women Voters of the United States:
The League was founded on the fight for womens’ right to vote. Today, we carry that mission forward — for every voter whose rights are under attack. We are leading the charge in courtrooms, communities, and at the ballot box.
And to do this, requires that we all remember, respect, embrace, and operate in manner that reflects the fact that,
The collective sum of our individual differences and life experiences represents not only our culture, but our reputation and the organization's mission and achievements as well.
