Important dates

  • Deadline to register to vote in this election: October 2, 5 p.m. in person at county offices; October 4, 11:59 p.m. online or by fax, email; October 5 with the Post Office retail counter's postmark

Deadline to apply for an absentee ballot: October 23, 5 p.m. See How can I vote absentee?

  • Early voting: October 19 - October 31, Monday through Saturday (closed Sunday), 8:30 am - 6 p.m., county early voting centers
  • Genera Election Day: November 3, 7 am - 7 pm, neighborhood precincts  
  • Deadline to return an absentee ballot at your county voter registration and election office: November 3, 7 p.m.

Who’s eligible to vote? 

You must be a U.S. citizen, at least age 18 on November 3, and a South Carolina resident in the county or precinct in which you're registering. Some criminal restrictions apply. 

South Carolina college student? You have a choice. 

In South Carolina, college students can register to vote either at their college address or their home address, not both.  Find out more.  Be registered at least 30 days ahead of the election.

What about early voting? 

Monday, October 19 - Saturday October 31 (closed Sunday, Octobeer 25) , 8:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Voters can visit any early voting center in their county during the early voting period, present their photo ID, and vote using the voting system like they would at their polling place on Election Day.
 

What if I'm voting absentee? 

  • To be counted, absentee ballots must be received by the county voter registration and elections office no later than 7:00 p.m. on November 3.
  • Be sure to sign the voter’s oath and have the return envelope witnessed before returning the ballot. Make sure the witness provides an address.
  • Instead of mailing your ballot, consider personally delivering your ballot to ensure it arrives on time.
  • An authorized returnee may return a ballot on a voter’s behalf if the required authorized returnee form is completed.

  • Voters returning an absentee ballot in person must present a valid photo ID

Where do I vote on Election Day? 

Tuesday, November 3 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. 
Confirm your neighborhood polling place. Your polling place may have changed since the last time you voted. Any voter who is in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
 

Where can I learn the election results?
