The League of Women Voters of South Carolina has elected Nancy L. Williams, longtime Hilton Head Island resident, as their 2021-2023 president.

With over 1100 members and 13 local Leagues statewide, the League of Women Voters is proudly a nonpartisan, grassroots organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

"The League of Women Voters' mission of empowering voters and defending democracy is as important today as it was 101 years ago.  The League is at the forefront in our state in protecting voters' rights and our democratic institutions themselves,"said Nancy Williams, president of the League of Women Voters of South Carolina.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Nancy Williams has lived in South Carolina for over 33 years and has been a member of the League since 1991. After her retirement in 2013 as Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry, Nancy served as Co-president of the League of Women Voters of Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Area.

Nancy has a passion for empowering people—youth through education, adults through literacy, and citizens through voting rights. She is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University (BA) and Wesleyan University (MALS).
