The South Carolina State Election Commission (SEC) is mailing over 190,000 voter confirmation cards to individuals who have not voted since the 2020 General Election and have not since updated their voter information. Voters who return the card indicating they have moved, voters whose cards are returned undeliverable by the U.S. Postal Service, and voters who do not respond are made inactive.

The vast majority of South Carolina’s approximate 3.4 million voters will be unaffected by the mailing.  Anyone who has voted in an election since November 2020 or registered to vote during that time will not receive the notice.

Anyone who has not participated in an election or not made an update to their registration record since November 2020 (about five percent of the state’s registered voters) will receive the notice.

Don’t be left out.

How can I update my voter registration information?

There are four ways to update your information.

1. Submit an online voter registration form. Online registration requires a S.C. Driver's License or Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) ID Card. You must first update your information with DMV before submitting a voter registration form.

2.Download a change of address form, print it, fill it out, and either: mail the form to your county board of voter registration, or fax the form to your county board of voter registration, or scan the form, and email the image as a file attachment to your county voter registration office.

3.Fill out the back of your current voter registration card and mail it to your county voter registration office.

4.Visit your new county's voter registration office and fill out a change of address form.

What does the mailed voter confirmation card look like?
